We had to smile when these three all coincidentally wore roll neck sweaters to the office on Friday! Michael Salamanca, Senior Marketing Manager for Hart Schaffner Marx; Mike Cohen, President of Hickey Freeman; and Brett Schenck, President of Hart Schaffner Marx show that the roll neck sweater has made a resurgence this season, but each put a personal touch to the look. We’ll explain how you can master each look as well.
This once older and gentlemanly look made it back onto the menswear runways of Milan and Paris last January and has popped up onto GQ magazine’s style blog. Designers like Salvatore Ferragamo, Neil Barrett and Roberto Cavalli all gave their own point of view of how to wear the sweater of the season.
You could wear your chunky roll neck sweater like Mr. Salamanca and rock it with a great pair of levis jeans. Throw on a cool double monk strap shoe in a dark leather or suede and you’ve taken this easy look to the next level. A gold watch adds a finishing touch to a brown or rust colored sweater.
Mr. Schenck’s look is casual with a light pair of jeans and cool sneakers. Currently, Brett is favoring the Adidas Campers in midnight blue. Add a large and masculine sports watch to keep the look grounded in sportswear. This will make a great casual Friday office look that keeps you on trend but not looking overdone.
To get Mr. Cohen’s look, you need to understand the art of layering. This look is a bit more formal than the other two, but it still is somewhat relaxed. Keeping the colors in warm spicy tones will keep you in winter mode. Cohen is wearing a brown cashmere sweater with an olive herringbone sportcoat and grey wool trousers. Pair with a great pair of rugged boots (Mike Cohen is wearing Wolverine 1000 Mile boots) in a dark leather and it will keep your outfit from looking to stuffy and overdressed.
Our Full Button Mock Neck Sweater, $145, is a versatile interpretation of the roll neck sweater trend, with toggle closures and a suede placket.
